We’re excited to announce the release of ER/Studio 20.7, featuring key enhancements in JSON modeling and Microsoft Purview integration.

What’s New in ER/Studio Data Architect 20.7

JSON Example Field Support
Data Architect now supports the examples attribute for JSON Instance modeling. You can define a list of sample values accepted by a field, improving the clarity and accuracy of generated schemas.

• Access the Examples field in the Datatype Properties section on the Datatype tab.
• Use the edit (…) button to manage your examples through a dedicated dialog.
• These example values are leveraged in JSON schema and JSON instance generation.
  

Generation Behavior Highlights:

• JSON Instance: Each field displays the default value, or the first example or reference value (in that order of priority).
• JSON Schema: All default, example, and reference values are included.

These updates streamline MongoDB database generation and make your JSON designs more informative and practical.

Additional Enhancements

• Improvements to how users design and document complex JSON structures.
• Fixes to containment line cardinality, enabling more accurate modeling of nested JSON relationships.

Enhancements in ER/Studio Team Server 20.7

Improved Microsoft Purview Integration
Team Server now supports the new Business Domain Glossary Terms introduced in Microsoft Purview. This enhancement enables more precise Data Mesh Product design and governance alignment.

To sync Business Domains with Team Server, ensure each domain in Purview includes users assigned to:

• Data Steward
• Data Catalog Reader

New Support for Complex Term Relationships

• Improved mapping of Purview Term relationships, including support for multiple inheritance.
• Added options to simplify relationship mapping between terms—making models cleaner and easier to manage.

Together, these updates help organizations fully embrace Purview’s shift from a standalone catalog to a Data Product delivery platform, with better glossary integration and end-to-end governance.
