Creating an Azure SQLDB Instance

First, you’ll need to set up an Azure SQLDB instance as your repository database. Follow these steps:

• Go to the Microsoft Azure Portal and create a new Azure SQL Database.
• Choose the Single Database (Single DB) option. It will get you an isolated, fully managed database environment.
• Set up your database name, server and resource settings based on your workload.

Once your database is created, the next step is to configure access so Team Server can connect to it.

Configuring Firewall Rules for Database Access

By default, Azure SQLDB blocks external connections for security reasons. Therefore, you’d have to allow access by setting up firewall rules:

• In the Azure SQLDB Overview section, click Set Firewall Rules.
• Add your Public IP (or Private IP, depending on your Azure configuration).
• Save the settings to allow the Team Server to communicate with the database.

This ensures that only approved users and applications can connect to your database.

Configuring Team Server Database Credentials

Before you start using the repository, it’s best to verify the connection and troubleshoot any issues. You can open the Team Server and check if the repository database is accessible. You can even run a quick test by trying to create and save a test metadata entry. 

If you still face any issues, you must check:

• Firewall settings: Ensure your IP is correctly whitelisted.
• Database credentials: Make sure there are no typos.
• Azure SQLDB status: Confirm the database is running.
